This this vlog, Danny talks about why you should be using vision boards to keep you on track both professionally and personally, and the steps needed to achieve those vision. Don’t forget, all of the vlog episodes (and more) are available on the FlippingJunkie YouTube channel at http://youtube.com/FlippingJunkie.
Are you using vision boards? They’re great for keeping you on track, and motivated to reach those goals. Danny had a lake house and a plane on his vision boards, as things that he never thought he would actually achieve. It wasn’t until this past weekend at Danny’s lake house that he realized he had achieved both of those things.
Melissa turned to him and said, “Hey this looks like the one on our vision boards!” (Talking about their lake house). And she was right! Danny had reached the lake house goal, and (for personal reasons) he had gotten his pilot’s license! All from keeping himself motivated with his vision boards.
Having vision boards will keep you organized and motivated. So, are you using vision boards? Use it to set personal goals, and business goals. Where do you want your business to go? What goals are you setting for your own self growth? Let us know in the comments!

Hey, everybody! Welcome back to the Flipping Junkie podcast. Another video log episode and today I want to talk about vision boards. Now this is something you probably heard about but I was thinking about it again while Melissa and I and the kids were at the lake this weekend, you know, just sitting there, looking out over the water and it’s funny because it took even several times being there once we first got the place to realize that hey, this is a lot like the picture on my vision board. I had a vision board with a picture of a dog with a chair on it overlooking the lake with hills in the background and so, you know, it didn’t even occur to us until after several times being there, it was like, “Wait a minute.”
And if you don’t know what vision board is, there’s a DVD based on a book I guess that was based on previous things like Psycho-Cybernetics or something like that. But anyway, it goes back pretty far. But basically, The Secret DVD talked about you get more of what you think of all the time and what’s on your mind you kind of get more. So if you’re always stressed, you’re thinking about your bills, guess what, you just end up with a bunch of bills. And it’s really a simple idea but I think there’s a lot of power behind it. I think we do kind of vibrate this energy in the world, kind of give you what you’re always thinking about and what you’re attracting.
So the concept is that you sort of come up with the things that you want; what do you want out of life, what do you want. Not just visible things but relationship-wise and spiritually and health and all kinds of stuff and basically you set up this board where you have pictures of these things because it helps to really visualize them. And you have this board of all these things that you want. I think there’s so much power even in just coming up with those things because for a long time in my life, you know, I had like the vague idea of what I wanted. I wanted success. But it was real vague, right? And you don’t necessarily have the exact thing that you want other than just success or wealth or whatever. And so this process of just determining those things and really pinpointing exactly what it is that you want, it’s huge and it’s super powerful because then you really have something to work for that’s measurable. And the beauty of all of it is that it’s not something that you have to sit there and you can set goals towards, specific goals, even though it helps. I didn’t set out a specific goal to have the lake house and have that view with the floating dock and sit it with the chair on it, all that kind of stuff. I didn’t have a goal for that other than knowing that’s kind of like I would have liked to and really, the thinking behind was summers at the lake; you know, being able to take summers off, go to the lake with the family. And that was with that picture on that vision board. It was for me and then we end up with a lake house. And it’s like, we can do that. And I didn’t set specific goals to find that lake house. It ended up being from our marketing to buy houses and the guy wanted to sell the house and we ended up getting a real good deal on it.
You know, there was this lake, actually it was pretty low because there was a drought in Texas for a long time and so, you know, people have been trying to sell the houses for a long time because the lake was real low. Then the lake filled up over this last year and so it’s been completely full and all of a sudden, a lot of houses went up on the market because they’re like, “Oh man, we can sell now because the water is back.” Well, with the demand not being as high as the supply when everybody put their houses on the market, it was really hard to sell these houses. And so it kind of worked out awesome because we could get a great deal on it because there’s so many houses for sale and there’s still the stigma of the lake being pretty low and so we’re able to get a great deal and the water is up high and we want to use the lake house. So we’re going to hold on to it for as long as we feel like holding on to it and then the stigma of the lake having been so dry and then being full again for a long time will be gone, and we’ll able to sell it for a good profit. So it’s an awesome thing.
But the vision board, you should put these things on there and it doesn’t happen overnight and it’s not something like you’ve got to go and sit there and look at this vision board and think about it all day or every morning for so many hours or whatever. I mean, it’s just like we made our vision boards years ago. I think I made mine maybe around 2008 maybe was when I made mine and I included also on there like a picture of a plane flying because I wanted to take flying lessons. And so, that vision board was up on a wall for a little bit and then I think we moved and it was just on the floor kind of like tucked away so I never even really saw it and looked at it. And after so many like two or three years have gone by, I looked at it again. I was sitting there, I was looking at it. I was thinking about it and saying, “Wow.” It’s like, a lot of this stuff that’s on this board ended up happening like I ended up doing that, I ended up even though when I put that picture of the plane, I was like, you know, it would be cool to one day maybe take lessons and become a pilot and be able to do that. But I didn’t really think it was going to happen. Like I wanted to but it was like, I’m so busy all the time, like when would I ever do that? You know, it ended up happening and I ended up taking lessons and becoming a pilot and there are several other things on there. I’m still waiting for the six-pack abs. That hasn’t happened yet. But I feel like I’m getting closer to that, believe it or not. It’s just something that’s a lot more slow-going but I feel like I’m healthier than I’ve been in a really long time. And then this lake house happening. So it’s a very powerful thing and I just recommend to everybody do it. And it’s fun to do it especially with your spouse and your kids and having that together. I think it makes it even more powerful when you guys know what your hopes and dreams are and you guys have a sort of a plan or know what each other wants and what the whole family wants. It’s really great.
And something that ties into that as well, and this I just like a poster board. You just get a poster board and cut out pictures, find pictures online, print them out, put them on there and paste them on. Or even just get a tack board I think is what I did, like a corkboard or tack board and just tack on the pictures.
But, you know, another thing that ties into this that Melissa and I had done several years back, it was a fun exercise and I don’t know who originated this or where it came from but I’ve heard it from several different places so I wouldn’t be able to say who kind of had this idea to do this. But it was basically to sit down and write out your perfect average day. And like what are you wanting to do, what would you imagine to be your perfect average day, what are you working towards, like what do you want your day to be like and it was to like where you wake up, who you wake up with, what it feels like, what it sounds like, and then have that kind of thing all the way throughout the day like what time do you wake up, what do you do first, what do you next, what do you do in the afternoon, what do you have for lunch, what do you have for dinner, who are you having lunch with. All that kind of stuff, just write it out.
So Melissa and I did this at the same time. I think we went to a coffee shop and we both sat down and wrote these quietly to ourselves and then we read them to each other. It was very cool. And the powerful thing with that is, it’s something, it’s like your perfect average day and the average is thrown in because I think the first person I think I heard this from was Frank Kern. He’s an internet marketer or a direct mail marketer or whatever marketer. He said it’s like your average day, because it’s not something like where you put to hang out with hookers and do blow all day or something, I don’t know. It’s something that you can actually do all day and live a good life. It’s not that kind of crazy stuff. You know, the things that you put to have your perfect average day, and then the thing is, to try to work your life and do the things that you’re doing to live that perfect average day right now. Like not wait for 10 years and plan to do it in 10 years. But to have something that you could actually do and make tough decisions and make some changes to start living that life because I think it’s more attainable than most people realize, and I think a lot of times we’re running around like chickens with our heads cut off. But there’s things that you can do and, I don’t know, it’s like knowing what it is, right? Then having the universe sort of turn to put things in your favor because you’ve decided and know what you want. You have a direction and you have sort of a plan or at least the end goal or something that you would like to have. And you know more about yourself and your spouse and your family than you would have beforehand. I think it’s super cool and it’s a very powerful thing that everybody out there should be doing and on a regular basis too. I updated mine about a year ago I think it was and there were some changes, and it’s just a fun exercise and you kind of have a different perspective on things.
So, I hope you guys enjoyed that. If you have never seen The Secret, check out the DVD, The Secret. It might seem a little bit hokey but I think it’s a really powerful thing if you believe it. You know it’s really God if you are a Christian or believe in God and if you want to feel like maybe more to the universe or the world or whatever. But it all ties in and I think it’s really cool, so check it out. And I had written something about it on Flipping Junkie before. I had a blog post where I talked about those things, talked about the vision board. I think I had a picture of it and I had to do the disclaimer that the body of the guy with the six-pack wasn’t what I wanted to do the six-pack. It was that I wanted to have six pack abs. But anyway, it was kind of funny.
Anyway, I hope you guys are having a great day. Thanks again for listening to the podcast and subscribing on iTunes, leave a rating and review. Then this video obviously is going to be uploaded also onto YouTube.com/flippingjunkie. All right, guys. Have a good one.
